10 Years in Asia - Putuoshan 普陀山 - March 2009

I went with the train to Ningbo and took the ferry to Putuoshan (island). Putuoshan 普陀山 (also Mount Putuo) is one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism (beside Wutaishan, Jiuhuashan and Emeishan). Putuoshan has been a pilgrimage site for over a thousand year. Its considered the Bodhimanda of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (in Chinese: Guanyin). The Island has a 33 meter tall statue of Guanyin. It was very nice, and the little island can be easily explored by foot. I went then back with a ferry to Shanghai.
